YESTERDAY, retired Snowy Hydro engineer Wally Mills met with other residents interested in holding events to mark the 60th anniversary of the Snowy Mountains Scheme in October.
At the meeting, held at the Snowy Business Enterprise Centre in Cooma, it was decided a reunion committee should be formed to help organise the anniversary celebrations.
Members of the Adaminaby Snowy Scheme Collection Inc. (ASSC) have played an important role in organising reunion events so far and, therefore, the reunion committee would be a sub branch of the organisation.
ASSC chairperson Jill Madew said donations are sought towards establishing the sub-committee, as an ongoing means of organising Snowy Scheme reunions and in promoting the event in Australia and overseas.
“Snowy Hydro Limited is not organising a 60th but is still to consider ways to mark the occasion, but they do support the community action to organise the reunion,” Mrs Madew said.
“The four Shire councils of the mountains, to this point, see the potential of the reunion but do not want to take the initiative.”
