Cricketers hit for six by bank donation

09 Feb, 2010 10:43 AM
The Monaro Junior Cricket Association received a $1,000 donation from the Commonwealth Bank last Thursday. Cooma branch manager Mark Morriss presented the cheque at the Rotary Oval nets.

Coach of the under 14s Neil Bowman said it was a generous donation and he had no shortage of ideas about how to spend the money.

“We’d like to bring a guest out to launch next season, Mike Hussey would be fantastic,” Mr Bowman said.

In addition to a visit from an inspirational player, the funds may go towards coaching DVDs and a new cricket kit to allow for more teams.

Mr Morriss said he was more of an armchair cricketer these days but played as a youngster and enjoyed it.

“It’s good to support our local community and it’s good to see kids playing sport,” Mr Morriss said.

The Cooma branch of the Commonwealth Bank has a cricket shirt signed by Mike Hussey and Mr Morris said he would donate it to a worthy cause.

“If someone is holding a silent auction for a good cause or has another fundraising idea, I’d like to hear it. We’d like to donate this shirt in a way that helps the community,” Mr Morriss said.

If you or your club has a cause worthy of Mr Cricket’s signed shirt drop into the Commonwealth Bank for further details.

The Cooma grant was one of 66 Community Grants the Commonwealth Bank handed out in this round of donations.
