The NSW Fire and Rescue were called to a massive grease trap overflow at the Bombala Street end of the Woolworths car park on Thursday afternoon.
NSW Fire and Rescue Cooma Captain Chris Reeks estimated the size of the spill was around 2000 litres of oil and grease.
“The affected area was about 30 metres by 60 metres. The clean up effort required the combined forces of Cooma Fire and Rescue, Jindabyne Fire and Rescue Hazmat unit, Top to Bottom plumbing contractor Darren Bottom and Cooma-Shire Council. It was a really good team effort, everyone helping,” Captain Reeks said.
“It was a really smelly, messy and sticky job,” added. It was all over by around 8.45pm, with the Bombala
Street entrance still closed off on Friday morning.
Cooma Woolworths spokesperson manager Amanda Kopp said investigations were underway as to the cause of the spill.
