FOLLOWING in the Olympic spirit, a torch rally has been held to highlight and address climate change across the nation.
The 'Get Up' action group Climate Change Relay torch made a pit stop at Nijong Oval and Numeralla on Sunday. Later that day it reached the summit of Mt Kosciuszko and the surf life saving clubhouse at Jindabyne.
The event was one of the last of the torch's Australia-wide journey set to finish at Parliament House in Canberra next week.
Cooma Clean Energy for Eternity president Antia Brademann, who ran with the torch on Sunday, said it was a good opportunity to unite communities across Australia and promote initiatives that minimised carbon emissions.
"The torch, in the spirit of the Olympics this year, encourages communities to band together and promote their initiatives to tackle climate change, in a fun manner," Ms Brademann said.
"Also, we get an opportunity to tell the government how they feel by voting, but this torch relay allows all people, both young and old, an opportunity to tell the government what they think about climate change," she said.
The Olympic-styled torch, which is powered by the sun, wind and a lemon, will be taken to Parliament House and presented with a Climate Protection Bill that calls for a 50 per cent reduction target by 2020.
