The Australian Trucking Association NSW has slammed the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) for installing a new speed camera system on the Monaro Highway between Cooma and Bredbo.
The point-to-point cameras will target heavy vehicle users and be able to calculate their speed.
If the truck’s average speed is higher than the speed limit for the road, the driver will be fined and incur demerit points.
The speed cameras will not target small trucks or cars.
The Association’s NSW manager Jill Lewis said the new camera system was not the right way to curb speed.
“We don’t condone anyone that speeds but to target heavy vehicles like this is not the way,” she said.
