Kevin Carlson George Javurek and Tracey Walker who are members of the Cooma Cycling Club travelled to Melbourne and joined in with about 16,000 cyclists to participate in The Smith Family fund raising event “Around the Bay in a Day”. This event is one of the world’s biggest and most popular participation cycling events, with a choice of four ride distances, 250 km, 210 km, 100 km, or 50 km. It offers a challenge for all abilities, and the ride takes in some of Melbourne’s most scenic and popular riding routes around Port Phillip Bay.
Kevin Carlson and George Javurek entered in the 210 km. They started at the Royal Botanic Gardens, out onto Beach road at St Kilda and then all the way down along the edge of Port Phillip Bay to Portsea where they stopped for a lunch break before turning around and heading back up to the finish at the Botanic Gardens. They completed their 210 km ride in about 9 hours. Tracey started her ride in the 100 km event at Portsea and finished back in Melbourne at the Botanic Gardens. Tracey managed to raise $835 for the Smith Family a deserving achievement for her ride and fund raising.
