Members of Cooma Pony Club turned out last weekend for a fantastic day of horsemanship and riding instruction. Riders were divided into two groups and participated in a variety of activities. Special thanks to Noelene Whiting, Mikala Walters and Penny Cassilles for their expert instruction.
A challenging circuit of obstacles was arranged, which really tested the riders’ skills and communication with their horse. In the sand arena there was a jumping course set up and all riders had the opportunity to negotiate the course, right from the lowest poles on the ground to the more experienced riders jumping at higher levels. Riders took this opportunity to be graded for participation in upcoming jumping competitions. Riders also had some fun with barrel racing and an egg-and-spoon race with an Easter egg for every rider at the end.
It was great to see riders and parents pitching in to assist with all tasks on the day, from setting out and packing up equipment to catering at lunchtime. This makes for a fantastic Pony Club day.
Cooma Pony Club meets for their monthly rally day on the first Sunday of the month. The next rally is set down for Sunday, May 3, and new members are always welcome. Contact Penny Cassilles on 6452 6279 for more information.
