Cricket returned to the Monaro on Saturday with Aussie 1’s, Coffey’s and Jindabyne taking the points.
Aussie 1 faced Aussie 3 at Nijong and after a positive opening partnership between Gary Van der Plaat (16) and Damien Asanovski (17) with only Ian Tucker (18)offered some resistance in the middle order.
Dennis McPherson bowled strongly for Aussie 1 picking up 5 for 19 off 9 overs while Troy Saddler chimed in with two scalps.
Aussie 1’s gave some of their less experienced a start at the top of the order but soon found themselves down four wickets before Troy Saddler (34n/o) and Dennis McPherson (14n/o) steadied the ship for a five wicket victory.
Both teams played short with Saddler saying some teams are struggling for numbers.
“I think it is the same for everybody, it is sometimes hard to get a full team,” he said.
It was an all Coffey’s affair at Snowy Oval with a low scoring affair giving the win to Coffey’s over the Colts.
Batting first Coffey’s made 117 with Allen(27) and Butchers (21) top scoring. For Colts Clarke picked up 3 wickets with Roach and Moon contributing with two each.
In reply Boate (16) got his side off to a good start but only Hillman (16) offered and real resistance as the colts boys were rolled for just 74. It was a team effort with the ball form Coffey’s with Burnes, Butchers, Smith and Moxon all picking up two wickets a-piece.
In the other matches Jindabyne had a 38 run win over Royal and Aussie 2 and Berridale/Dalgety played out a draw after bad weather brought a premature end to proceedings.
Jindabyne are on top of the ladder after being the only start the season off with two straight victories.
