It was a day of missed opportunities for the Monaro Representative side when the team bowed out of rep cricket with a six wicket loss to Goulburn in Goulburn.
Monaro batted first on a good pitch but only Sam Williams at number 4 got on with the job and finished with 56.
Two run outs cost the side dearly as James Nichols (15) and Troy Saddler (17) offered some resistance before the side collapsed for 122.
In reply the visitors had their tails up early with three quick wickets before some dropped catches and sensible batting enabled Goulburn to cruise to a 6 wicket victory. Pick of the bowlers for Monaro was Troy Saddler who took 2 for 28 off 7 with Maguire and McPherson taking one wicket a-piece.
The Monaro’s Troy Saddler said the side had let itself down in the batting department.
“Sam starred for us with the bat and did it all on his own,” he said.
Saddler said they needed to make more runs on a good wicket.
“Two runouts were disastrous for us and 122 was never going to be enough,” he said.
However, Saddler said to the team’s credit they gave it their all with the ball.
“We took three quick wickets but unfortunately we dropped three catches,” he said.
Saddler said a change in line-up from last week did not help the Monaro’s cause.
“The boys who came into the side did a good job but we lacked a bit of experience. It would have been good to keep last week’s winning side but having to travel didn’t help us,” he said.
Saddler said the side was also missing a front line bowler.
“We are a bit short on class bowlers on the Monaro, but
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how we go next year,”
he said.
