Stallions at home on Sunday

02 Jul, 2009 12:12 PM
This weekend sees the return of Rugby League to the Cooma Showground when Cooma United Stallions run out against competition leaders the Tathra Sea Eagles.

The sides have played each other twice this season, going away with one win each at home. In the second round played at Tathra, Cooma should have won after sticking with the Sea Eagles most of the match.

This Sunday will see the firsts take the field with a very strong side. New boys, Whitemead and Jaffery plus the return of Russell has livened up the attack and with last years captain-coach Ty Fallin signing-up, Cooma’s attack will be something to see. Dunn will move back into the forwards and his combinations with Thomas, Afasamaga and Simpson will take some holding out.

The Cooma outside backs are starting to really combine and quick kids Salvestro, Reid and Whitemead plus Mike Talaepa who picked up a couple of tries last week will be looking to capitalise on any break

Reserves coach Chippy Boller has the enviable task of choosing from a big, strong, smart team with some 20 odd players now on the books. The 2nds last week possibly played the best game of the comp wining 38-12 to jump back on top of the table and look keen and enthusiastic to stamp their superiority on the 2nds comp.

The under 18s have been keen and are looking to get their year back on track against Tathra this Sunday at 11.30am. The boys have been attentive at training and will be super confident to play well and may have their gun forward Baines back to strengthen the side.

See you all at the Showground this Sunday where the Cooma Club will be acknowledging the passing of ex player, local and stalwart Timmy ‘Mac’ McDonald during the day.
