Cooma's Thomas Crimmins has wrapped up Round 3 of the Under 15 National Downhill Mountain Bike Championships in Geelong, Victoria, finishing 23 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.
It was a family affair in Geelong with Thomas' 11 year-old brother Andrew finishing 5th in the same Under 15 category. Andrew has only been racing for a year in the Under 13 Canberra Club Rounds and it seems he already has what it takes to emulate his brother's feats.
The boys' father Ian said he was very happy with the results of his two sons.
"They raced quite well, Andrew obviously looks up to his brother and Thomas has been teaching him everything he knows," he said.
The Geelong track had a drop in elevation of only 120 metres over the 1.88 kilometre distance meaning riders had to rely on pedal power to complete the course quickly.
Thomas flew down the track in a time of 2:49:71.
The riders were thankful for clear weather conditions on Sunday race day after Saturday's practise looked more life a mud bath due to constant rain.
Thomas continues to maintain his unbeaten run and leads the series going into Round 4 at Mt Buller in the first week of February.
Before Round 4 riders will focus their attention on the National Downhill Championships at Mt Stromlo in Canberra over the Australia Day long weekend.
Mr Crimmins said his son holds high hopes of doing well at the event.
"He's been practicing quite a bit at Thredbo and at Mount Stromlo, he'll be aiming to win the event," he said.
