The Cooma Tigers have been reinstated into Capital Football’s Premier League on the back of last year’s success which saw the side take out the Division One title.
The Tigers last featured in the Premier League during 2006 and despite taking the title that year were omitted from the competition for 2007.
Tigers captain Marcial Munoz said the decision had been a long time coming.
“I think it is a good move from Capital Football, there wasn’t sufficient reason to deregister our participation in the first place,” he said.
While manager Enrique Alcazar said a lot of hard work had gone in to make it happen.
“It has been a long waiting period, but a period of learning,” he said.
Munoz said it was a great opportunity for Football in Cooma.
“Cooma is a major region in this area and deserves to be represented. It will be wonderful for the kids in the game because it gives them something to look forward to and work towards,” he said.
Back in 2006, the Tigers believed Capital Football wanted a Canberra only Premier League, but Munoz is confident this has changed.
“In simple football terms, Capital Football didn’t have an option. Places like Cooma and Goulburn are strong football areas and Capital Football want to promote a regional competition, he said.
Alcazar said Division One coach Gaby Wilk would continue to coach the side in the premier league and there was extra talent being sort for the move up the ranks.
“We will be looking for players to strengthen the side. For example, we are looking at one Argentinian who is currently playing in Chile,” he said.
Munoz who was the 2009 Captain said he would love the opportunity to lead the side again but understands that team changes will need to be made for the step up.
“I am very proud to be the captain of the Cooma Tigers and I take the position to heart. I am looking forward to training with the side and beginning the pre-season,” he said.
