Sillett flew out from Charles Kingsford Smith airport on Tuesday at 5pm and will compete against some of the world's best in Holland over the next few weeks.

"The nerves are hitting me about the whole experience, travelling on my own and wondering about what I will have to go through in the next couple of weeks," said Sillett of the journey ahead.

"I hope I've done enough training and prepared myself well.

"But this will also be a great experience.

"I'm looking forward to seeing a different culture and country, and getting in a bit of sightseeing in as well."

Sillett's sensei Jim McDonald said Daniel's adventure had been made possible by the generosity of the people of Cooma, who pitched in to pay for an airfare to Europe.

"At just 19 Daniel is on his way to represent Australia in the Kyokushin Karate European full contact championships where he will be fighting competitors from all over the world," said McDonald.

When he arrives in Holland, Daniel will go straight into training, acclimatising himself to the cold winter weather over three days before the tournament on January 27.

"After this he will go to Belgium where he will train with an eighth Dan karate master and we hope what he learns there will be brought back to incorporate into our training," said McDonald.

"Karate is probably known more for its discipline but there is much more on offer as has been proved by Daniel's trip.

"As our motto says 'Nothing is impossible'."
