Mugga Lane takes out 20th Sundowners Cup

Mugga Lane won the $12,500 Cooma Ex-Services Club-Jemena 20th Sundowners Cup by more than two lengths at the 2012 Cooma Race meet at the Ti Tree Racecourse on Saturday.

Ridden by female jockey Winona Costin and trained by Braidwood's Aaron Clarke, the six-year-old, was unstoppable in the 1,400 metre feature race.

The win saw Costin nab her first career double after riding Rhythmic Chimes first over the finish line in the 1600m Monaro's Farming Experts Class 2 Handicap earlier in the day.

Female jockeys were the stars of this year's Cooma Races riding all six winners at the meet.

Sebony took out the other feature race the $12,500 Cooma Nissan Cooma Cup.

Ridden by Kristen Smart for Sapphire Coast trainer Chris Strickland, the nine-year-old, edged out the winner of the Snowgoose Hotel Motel Adaminaby Cup Back To Zero for the win.

Sebony also won the Cooma Cup in 2009 and won the Bombala Cup in October.

For Smart, the win made it her first career treble.

She rode Ballydoyle to a win in the first race of the day, over 1,000 metres and backed up in race two, the Monaro's Leading Suppliers Maiden Plate with a win on Yambulla.

Jockey Kayla Cross rounded out the successful day for the girls on the track with a win in the final race, the Schofield Supporters Benchmark 52 Handicap, on Double Night.

Local trainers were also in the mix with two close second places.

The Guvnor trained by Kevin Byrne came in half a length behind Rhythmic Chimes in race three while the David Kelley trained Solo Kalimnah was second to Double Night by a lip.

Cooma Monaro Race Club president Mick Schofield said it was a great day of racing and thanked all the clubs, sponsors, the services and the community for making it such a successful day.
