The Cooma Cats AFL team showed they’re not just handy footballers by turning their attention to Twenty20 cricket on Friday winning their Clash of the Codes fixture against the Cooma Red Devils. The Cats won the toss and batted first in overcast conditions with the Rotary oval lights turned on and began well with Fitzgerald and Stevens setting a cracking pace. A couple of quick wickets fell and then the Asanovski brothers (Adam and Damien) steadied the ship for the Cats with some well placed late order hitting and the Cats reached 134 off their allocated 20 overs. In reply Matthew Moxan showed his talents for the Rugby Union side with some lofted strokes over the infield before he fell to a skied catch which triggered a collapse for Rugby boys as they limped to 73 all out in the 14th over. The best bowlers for the Cats were Damien Asanovski (4/2) and Stuart Wood (3/12) and the cats now look forward to taking on the winner of this Fridays rescheduled game between the Cooma Stallions Rugby League and reigning 20 20 champions the Cooma Tigers Soccer side. Everyone is invited to Rotary Oval this Friday from 6pm to enjoy what promises to be an entertaining game
In round six of the Monaro District Cricket Association competition on Saturday Coffeys 2/195 (Z Smith 100*) defeated Cooma Cats 9/185 (D Asanovski 58*), Berridale 6/89 defeated Alpine all out 85 and Jindabyne 5/153 declared scoring the first outright victory of the year rolling Cooma Cannons for 43 and 75.
