Shooters contend with strong winds

COOMA Gun Club held its monthly shoot on January 12 in what can only be described as a shocking day. Forty to 50k/h winds prevailed, gusting much higher but the shooters performed extremely well.

The first event was a 20 target double barrel eye opener; AA 1st Bob Walters, Ray Welch (Eden) and Stuart Bennett (Bega) 19/20, 2nd Phil Body (Eden) and David Turner 18/20. A Grade 1st Geoff Mills (Canberra) 20/20 and 2nd George Kazolis 19/20. B Grade 1st James Barron 18/20 and 2nd Brian Smith (Bega) 16/20.

C Grade 1st Ed Oslins and Geoff Beht (Bega) 19/20 and 2nd Dick McInnes (Bombala) and Michelle Craig (Bermagui) 16/20.

With the wind getting stronger the second event was a 50 target double barrel club championship; Overall winner Bob Walters after a shoot off with Stuart Bennett on 64/65. AA Grade 1st Stuart Bennett 63/65 and 2nd Charlie Smith (Bega) 48/50. A Grade 1st Phil Craig (Bermagui) 49/50 and 2nd Brody Walters 48/50. B Grade 1st Ray Kearns (Bega) 47/50 and 2nd James Barron 46/50. C Grade 1st Dick McInnes 46/50 and 2nd Ed Oslins 42/50.

The next event was a single barrel 30 target club championship just to make things a bit harder in the wind.

Overall winner after a shoot off with Alf Neisar was Peter Ewart 30/32. AA 1st Bob Walters 27/30 and 2nd Charlie Smith 26/30. A Grade 1st Alf Niesar (Bermagui) and 2nd Brody Walters 26/30. B Grade 1st James Barron 25/30 and 2nd Brian Smith 23/30. C Grade Dick McInnes 27/30 and 2nd Ed Oslins 18/30. High Gun for the day was Bob Walters with 95/100.

The next shoot will be on Febuary 9 starting at 10am with a good mixture of events so if you want to try your hand at clay target shooting come along.
