THE year has started with a bang for a Cooma dad who has claimed a $1.35 million Keno cash prize at the Cooma Ex-Services Club.
The prize was claimed on Tuesday and is Keno's first major jackpot for the year.
While the winner is keen to keep his identity under wraps for personal reasons, he was proud to say out loud that he's keen to start spending his $1,352,954 cash prize.
"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "I can't wait to be able to do something with it."
That "something" includes buying a beach house with an ocean view and a swimming pool where his kids and grandkids can visit.
The winner is also excited to be able to invest some of the money.
Incredibly, the winner didn't even know he had won the jackpot until the day after he had bought the ticket from the club.
When he returned to check his ticket on Tuesday, he was blown away by the news.
"I've always thought I was going to win a lot of money," he said.
The winner said he had been playing his own special numbers, including family birthdays, since Keno started. The winning numbers were 8, 9, 21, 28, 34, 40, 44, 45, 46 and 47.
Cooma Ex-Services Club general manager Kade Morrell said it was the biggest win in the history of the club.
"It goes to show millions can be made at the club," he said.
"It was a great win for the person and great for the town that someone local won the major jackpot in Keno.
"We wish him luck and hope he enjoys his winnings."
