There are some blistering scores at Cooma Golf Club at the moment with handicaps tumbling due to the extra summer run and preferred lies. If you are interested in playing pennant golf this autumn then place your name on the notice board for either the A reserve pennant team or the B grade handicap team.
So what happened last week on the course
On Saturday January 26, 40 players hit off in a single medley stableford. Steve Young took out A grade with a round of the day, amassing a fine 44 points with Brian Searl coming home with 40 points. In B grade Tom Geach had 42 points with Ken Ganya coming in second with 38 points. C grade was won by John Langton with 43 points from Neil Venables with 39. Ball winners went down to 36 points. There were no nearest the pins.
Sunday saw a wetter course after great rain on Saturday night. Norm Marshall obviously liked the conditions and scored 43 points off a 7 handicap to just nudge out Tony Clibborn with 42 points. Ball winners went down to 34 points. On the 9th our nearest the pin winner was Norm Marshall and on the 17th Terry Johnston.
On Wednesday January 23, 35 players competed in three grades for the top prizes with A grade being won by Denis Minehan with 42 points. B grade was taken out by Vic Carroll with 41 points and C grade was won by Jenny Rainsford also with 41 points. Ball winners went down to 37 points. Nearest the pin on the 9th was a super shot by Phil Patricks and Norm Marshall was closest on the 17th.
Next Saturday sees an individual stableford medley being round five of the Summer Cup. On Sunday round two of the Super Stableford is on offer and on Wednesday there is a single medley stableford for members and visitors so don't miss another fine week of golf.
Junior golf is on this Thursday with the popular junior comp on Sunday at 2pm. Members are asked to lend a hand if they can, to encourage more than 35 keen young golfers.
