SCHOOL is in for the kids but if you are past school age then there is no need to feel your learning is being neglected.
Snowy Mountains University of the Third Age has a great programme of courses commencing in the next few weeks.
Some of the courses scheduled to start are Computers for Intermediate Users, Digital Photography and Astronomy.
All these courses are taught by Gordon Griffin and are held at the Cooma Public School Old Residence Classroom every Tuesday.
The computer class starts at 9.30am and goes for two hours. It is followed by Digital Photography starting at 11.30am for one hour then Astronomy, starting at 12.30pm for one hour.
Pupils can attend all three classes or just attend one, depending on interest.
Mr Griffin said no prior knowledge was necessary and people can commence at any time.
He will also be teaching Basic Computing in Jindabyne at the Uniting Church Hall on a day to be determined.
Contact Gordon on 6456 7377 for more information on any of these courses.
Vorrebbe parlare italiano? Si? Would you like to speak Italian? Yes?
Then you can join Mary Tozer's class of Italian for beginners every Monday afternoon at the Cooma Ex-Services Club. Classes commence on February 11 and will run between 1.30pm to 3pm.
Mrs Tozer, who has been speaking Italian for many years, said the class will be for real beginners.
"We intend to start with the basics and see how far we can go," she said.
"The first day we will only need a pen and paper or exercise book.
"You certainly don't have to have a prior knowledge of Italian."
Perhaps just hearing the song "Volare" recorded by Dean Martin in 1958 transports you to sunny Italy and gives you the urge to learn Italian.
Now is the time to enrol and enjoy learning with a class of like-minded people.
Mary will have enrolment forms for you. Phone Mary on 6456 4405 if you would like more information.
"Parlez-vous francais? Non? Would you like to speak French?
French speaking classes are held every Monday morning from 9.30am until 10.45am starting on February 11.
Classes will be held at the Cooma Public School Old Residence Classroom and Elizabeth Laught will be your tutor.
The class will meet during the school term and, of course, everyone is welcome.
You do not need a prior knowledge of the French language just arrive at the class with a pen, some notepaper and a sense of humour.
"We have a small collection of books given to Snowy Mountains U3A for present and future French students to use," Elizabeth said.
Mrs Laught has been speaking French since early high school.
When her husband, John was posted to Mauritius with Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation (SMEC), their children attended a French speaking school so Elizabeth decided she had to persevere with her French to keep up with her children.
Mrs Laught says that 'language supports memory'.
Whether you are a francophile, that is, a person who has a strong liking for France or the French, or just a person with an interest in different languages then phone Mrs Laught on 6452 3438 to enrol.
A one-year subscription to Snowy Mountains U3A is $40 for singles and $70 for couples. This fee includes a $5 joining fee.
Renewal membership will cost you $35 for singles and $60 for couples.
You will find an enrolment form at the Cooma Visitors Centre or you can ask your tutor for one.
