Old fashioned family fun at Dalgety Show

THE Dalgety Show on March 3 is the quintessential family day out. With all the sights, smells and experiences of the Royal Easter Show, but on a much smaller scale and closer to home, the Dalgety Show offers a wealth of experiences. The poultry, sheep and cattle display give kids a chance to get up close to the animals that provide us with so much while the very popular petting paddock gives kids a chance pat baby animals.

This year is bound to be a great one with special guest, Brett White. Our home grown rugby league legend come Canberra Raider will officially open the 2013 Dalgety Show.

And amidst the sheep dog trials, woodchop and equestrian events that attract young and old audiences, there are those events that are just for kids. This year, the Dalgety Show will run its very first kids games, with the inaugural Egg and Spoon race for children under 10 years.

Other childhood experiences include Zorb Balls, amusement rides, working vintage steam engines and a special visit by Milo The Clown who, with the help audience volunteers and very silly magic wands, performs juggling, diabolo and unicycle routines.

The pavilion displays delight young and old with sights and tastes and smells but apart from the delicious cake display, children get to see their own and others works in a display of artworks and poems submitted by local school children.

The other bonus for parents is the size of the showground. This is a little show, ideal for little legs. There is no long distance traipsing to get around between events and plenty of shade and food stalls for families to rest at.

But the finale for kids would have to be the Tug-O-War where kids compete before the grown ups relive their childhood with teams pulling each end of the rope for the top prize money.

The 69th Dalgety Show will take place on Sunday March 3, returning after a one year hiatus due to the 2012 floods. The show will have all usual favourite displays and competitions including horse events, sheep dog trials and the Snowy River Tyrepower Teams Challenge.

With rides and amusements for the kids plus stalls and art and craft competitions the Dalgety Show is a great day out for families. For more information, event program and competition entry forms visit the Show's website www.dalgetyshow.com.au
