Stand up for rural communities

DARE to have your funny bone tickled when 12 stand up comedians from Canberra descend upon Cooma on Saturday March 16.

They will be performing at the Cooma Little Theatre as part of Resilience Inc. Stand up for Rural Communities fundraising event.

Resilience Inc. is a local non for profit community organisation raising funds to support programs and projects in rural communities.

Dr David Learoyd will MC the event which features comedians from Comedy ACT Hamish Hudson and Emo Parsonson.

Other performers include Jasper Burfoot, Dave Graham, Tim Noon, Jordan Windley, Johnno Davis, Simon Bower, Chris Ryan, Tim Keeble and Georgina Birchall.

Resilience Inc. foundation president Stephanie McDonald said the comedy night was something new and exciting for Cooma.

"It will be a great laugh," she said.

"The idea was to bring something different to rural communities.

"We want to give rural communities the opportunity have a laugh at an affordable price

"We are hoping to get a full house so get your tickets quick."

The event will be the first in a series of comedy nights with a percentage of funds to be held in Cooma throughtout the year raised being donated to non-government organisations.

Resilience Inc. will donate 10 per cent of takings from the first event to the Cooma Little Theatre car park fund.

Stand up comedy performer development workshops are also being organised by Resilience Inc. in coming months. The workshops will run over two 4 hour sessions - the first will be held one month before and the second will be held one week before our next stand up event.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for concession and are available from The Fabric Salon.

Ms McDonald thanked Jasper Burfoot for organising the comedians for the show, all performers and Dr David Learoyd for standing up for rural communities, Marnie Stewart at The Fabric Salon for being our box office and also being an outlet for $1 and $2 raffle tickets. Moontree Trading and Cooma Trophy & Gift Centre are also selling raffle tickets. She also thanked Cooma Motor Lodge for providing accommodation for our out-of-town performers.
