Tuesday was a beautiful day for the final of the major pairs and the start of the major singles.
The greens were running superbly thanks to greenskeepers and Geoff who since retiring has been a regular Tuesday morning helper for the ladies.
A big thank you to Mark Buckley for umpiring on the day. Unfortunately our regular lady Beryl Seears is in hospital and we wish her all the best and hope that she is feeling much better soon.
In the major pairs L.West and O.Jebbink played R.Steinfort and G.Caldwell. Olga got off to a 12-5 lead by end nine when Gwen and Rulie retaliated and by end 17 picked up seven shots to bring them within four shots. Olga and Lorraine were lucky to pick up one shot on the last end to win 21-16. Well done to Gwen and Rulie who have gelled together very well as a first time combination. Congratulations to all that participated as there was some great games played in the competition.
In the major singles it was the first games played to the new 25 up rule.
On rink 3 V.Clark and D.Russell battled it out. Val tested out her new set of bowls and seemed to be able to handle them very well. Although having the upper-hand from end eight Dawn showed her ability to draw bowls and keep Val on her toes. Val came out a winner 27-15.
Rink 4 had S.Sellars against M.Obermaier. Sue had the best start in this game until end 19 when Mary plugged along to bring the score to 14 all. From then on Mary was putting the pressure on and Sue was feeling the game slip away and was trying hard to keep it within her grasp but Mary ended it with a 25-19 win.
Rink 5 was the past winners of the minor and major singles playing each other L.Snell and M.D'Amico. Maureen found it a bit hard to get started.
Leonie led out 9-1 after seven ends and was always going to be a tough opposition to give shots away freely, but by end 26 Maureen was able to peg the score back 18-20. Leonie took the final two ends to win 25-18. Great game girls.
The social game of triples with Una Roberson playing swinging lead with H.Reeves, D.Fraser against G.Connelly, J.Upton.
Daphne's team were a bit hot to trot on the day coming out winners 25-7.
The afternoon game was another singles game between K.Sach and H.Peuker. Kath bolted out of the blocks leading 15-2 after eight ends. Helen, feeling like packing up and going home, when the adrenalin set in and picked up 15 shots and found herself only one down on the 16th end.
Kath picked up the next three ends to lead 19-15. Helen wasn't going to let this finish now and started to find her aim again and the winning shots to lead 20-19.
Kath must of been feeling down after her mammoth lead slipping away picked up four shots to take the lead again 23-20 on end 25. Helen's heart pumping kept her cool to pick up six shots over the last three ends to push home 26-23. This was a gripping game taking almost three hours. Congratulations to the both of you just goes to show it's never over until the final bowl is played in these games. Congratulations to all the winner and the losers get to play again in the minors or next year. Thanking all the girls that gave up their time to help as markers ,remember if you lose you are expected to mark in the next game.
