The renovation of the Cooma Hospital’s nurses’ flat is a tribute to what can be achieved when two community groups pool their skills and resources for the benefit of the community.
The refurbishment of the flat is a partnership between the Monaro Committee for Cancer Research (MCCR) and Cooma Lions Club.
A merry band of Cooma Lions volunteers started work on the renovations on Saturday, stripping out the old carpet and lino and cupboards to make way for the complete refurbishment of the flat which will be used by visiting medical staff and cancer patients’ families.
The Lions have already put in a large window frame for a double glazed window and estimate the extensive refurbishment will be completed in a month.
The building project management is courtesy of Lion’s members Peter Toole, Jim Phillips and John Britton. MCCR committee member Jacqui Schofield will be assisting with the interior design.
A number of local and regional businesses have supplied goods and materials at discounted prices and include Ryleho Windows at Queanbeyan, Dave Stewart Kitchens at Polo Flat, Cooma Furnishings and Gino Cerro painting in Cooma.
