Garden Club saves lives

The Nimmitabel Garden Club has organised successful open garden celebrations this year to raise funds for worthy causes and the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Rescue Helicopter is a major beneficiary.

On Monday representatives of the Garden Club, Marie Hampson and John Caldwell, presented $2,000 to Tracy Crowe of Snowy Hydro.

The rescue helicopter service is partially funded by the NSW and ACT governments and Snowy Hydro but it relies on other donations by community groups to continue its vital, lifesaving service.

“Two thousand dollars equates to about one helicopter flight to the Snowy Mountains region – or one life saved,”according to the service’s chief executive Owen Finegan.

Cooma is a regular destination and the helicopter attended 45 missions to the region in 2010-11.
