Cooma Library has celebrated Family History Week by displaying a selection of resources available for people to begin searching or to fine tune your family ancestry investigations.
Items included books, microfilm records, births, deaths and marriages, CDRoms, cemetery records, local information, as well as access to internet resources.
In addition, the library is a designated centre to receive microfilms from the Family Search Centre in America
Jess Warner was available at the Library for consultation and assistance to navigate through the myriad of materials available.
She also showcased some rather unique ways people are able to collate their results. Jess and other Friends of Family History have attended numerous computer courses at TAFE, where they have learnt the skills to organise their findings and put them together into family masterpieces.
Highlights of their works included self published family history booklets, family tree charts, family calendars, diaries, ships logs and photo montages.
Most fascinating was their ability to restore photos using computer techniques. The TAFE group had also produced a beautiful Powerpoint presentation of their efforts.
The Library display was so successful that it will be held over for another week until Saturday August 11. If anyone would like to know more they are encouraged to visit the library to view resources or call in on Tuesday afternoons from pm where Jess is delighted to share her vast knowledge and expertise.
