Cooma and Jindabyne students are studying a certificate II in hairdressing through Cooma TAFE as part of their HSC.
They do their theory component at the TAFE in the morning and through a partnership with Jaggez Hair Studio can meet their practical course requirements, by using the facilities in a real salon in the afternoon.
This partnership with the community, to make this course available, has been well patronised by students from Monaro and Jindabyne Central High for eight years.
Special congratulations go to Tyla Steward in year 12. She has gained a Hairdressing Apprenticeship at 'Zaiji' City Walk in Canberra. Tyla begins work next week. Her teacher, Sandy Schofield said she was very proud of her.
Her class members, teacher, school and TAFE wish her all the best for the future and congratulate her on her huge success.
The students celebrated their achievements with a Chinese lunch together, where representatives from Monaro High and Cooma TAFE attended and spoke to the students commending them on their maturity in taking on a VET course as part of their HSC while still meeting their school commitments.
The students will come back in 2014 to finish their Cert II joined by new students in year 11.
