The Lady Tigers have secured a spot in the State League 2 Grand Final this weekend with a convincing win against Goulburn Strikers 3-0.
Cooma started off strong applying a lot of pressure in Goulburn's half. Great through balls from Kate Xenochristou and Stacey Kelly provided opportunities for Alicia Connell and Tina Caffarelli to have some early chances and through this Cooma was awarded with a corner. Alicia Connell took the kick and Stacey Kelly made no mistake and with what is becoming a signature move of hers and hit the ball past the keeper with her stomach into the goal.
Towards the end of the first half Cooma became a bit complacent and one of the Goulburn Strikers had a one-on-one chance to score but goalkeeper Kailey Tonini pulled off a remarkable save to keep the score 1-0 going into half time.
A motivating speech from Coach Nikki Tonini at half time set fire to the Tiger's game and in the second half straight from the kick off the girls meant business. Kimberly Darley broke free down the line and crossed the ball into the middle where Alicia Connell was waiting patiently; she smashed the ball into the bottom left corner giving Goulburn's keeper no chance to save it. This seemed to rattle Goulburn but to their credit they kept on fighting. Through good communication and hard work at the back between Candice Geach, Brianna Kerr, Rachel Lovell, Brooke Ardle and Eva Klima they were able to shut down and clear out any loose balls. Cooma scored again this time coming from winger Lisa Drury who slotted it straight past the keeper to secure Cooma's Grand Final hopes.
This Sunday they will play ADFA for the premierhsip who finished first in the competition and who have been undefeated all year.
The girls lost to ADFA in the first round 3-1 and in the second round it was much closer with a 1 all draw. Kick off is at 12pm this Sunday in Canberra at the Kaleen Enclosed Fields, Kaleen. Please come and show your support for the team.
