It has only been three weeks since work on renovations at Yallambee Lodge began but already the extensions are taking shape.
The tender for the work at the council-owned aged care facility in Cooma North was awarded to local contractor Bylund Building.
Work on the first phase of the project encompassing extensions of the recreation, dining and kitchen area started on September 9.
Yallambee Lodge manager Donna Saddler said the renovations were progressing well and on track to be completed on December 20.
The new kitchen area is being extended where a carport once existed and the recreation area where an outside verandah once was.
"We will have new state of the art equipment, extra prep area, a walk-in cool room and a walk-in pantry [in the kitchen]," Mrs Saddler said.
"It will be almost double in size."
The second phase will focus on increasing the size of the staff office accommodation and the doctor's treatment room.
It is due for completion on April 11, 2014.
Mrs Saddler said the residents and staff had been managing well throughout the construction.
"There has been minimal disruption," she said.
"I have been very impressed with the work and the workers have been very accommodating to the residents."
The work is expected to cost about $399,000.
