THE occupants of a first floor unit on Commissioner Street Cooma were lucky to escape a serious fire after Molotov cocktails were thrown through their window on Tuesday morning this week.
A man and a woman in their 40s, living in the unit, awoke to a cracking sound at 4am and found the curtains, sofa and clothes in their unit were alight.
Two Molotov cocktails were thrown through the window, breaking it, but only the second one ignited.
The male resident put the fire out before NSW Fire and Rescue arrived.
Monaro Local Area Command Inspector Tony Hill said it was a very serious crime and urged anyone with any information to come forward.
"Cooma Detective Steve Hopkin is investigating," Inspector Hill said.
"Detective Hopkin has done initial investigations and forensic police have examined the scene.
"Anyone with information can anonymously contact Cooma police on 64520099 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
"We'd be very interested to hear from anyone who knows anything about this incident."
