Tree specialists (arborists) were quick to respond to a call to deal with some dangerous trees in Centennial Park on Tuesday.
Essential Energy and Cooma Monaro Shire Council called on the services of the Sapphire Coast Tree Services to prune some elm trees with a number of dead limbs in danger of falling onto power lines or passersby in Centennial Park.
There is also an elm tree with a three-metre crack which has been observed to open and close up to six inches, with the wind. It is deemed an even bigger threat to safety than the dead limbs, as a large part of the tree could split away.
The trees are along the Massie Street side of the park.
Sapphire Coast Tree Services are based in Merimbula and have depots in Cooma and Queanbeyan.
Five locals were on the job, either going up the 75 foot 'travel tower' or cherry picker, cutting out the tree branches, or keeping the public well away, or mulching the branches.
