Strong fielding from Monaro's under 12 representative cricket team was the difference in their 10 run victory over Crookwell on Sunday.
It was a tight game but with some great catches and good out fielding Monaro kept pressure on the batsmen to claim the win. Monaro lost the toss and were sent in to bat at Snowy Oval.
A 112 run opening partnership between Russ Haylock (47) and Harry Litchfield (27) was the foundation of the impressive Monaro innings. The openers batted for 27 of the allowed 40 overs. A couple of quick wickets to a patient Crookwell team soon slowed the run rate. A vital 26 run partnership between Noah Saddler and Griffin Swan helped to get the score to 8/156 at the completion of 40 overs.
The opening spell from Monaro bowlers Harry Litchfield and Will Cahill had the score at 1/21 after 8 overs with Litchfield bowling Shipton for six. The change of bowlers brought further success with Jacob Umback removing the other opener when Griffin Swan held on to a good catch. Kiah Joyce and Jordan McCleod bowled tightly to restrict the scoring as a partnership began to give Crookwell a chance.
The match swung toward Monaro when Blake Drew bowled the Crookwell captain McGregor, who showed great technique for 29. The very next ball Kayne Johnson-Smith had McKenzie caught by Kiah Joyce, bringing the score to 4/85. A solid 48 run partnership was broken when Lachlan McGufficke took at catch from the bowling of Harry Litchfield. Will Cahill re-entered the attack and took two late wickets. Crookwell finished with 146 from their 40 overs, giving Monaro a 10 run victory.
Next weekend Monaro travel to Goulburn.
