Crimmins crowned Cannonball champ

Bredbo's Andrew Crimmins has taken out the Australian Open Down Hill (DH) event at the inaugural Cannonball MTB Festival held in Thredbo on the weekend.

The 16-year-old won $5,000 in prize money after crossing the finish line in 5:26.37 minutes, ahead of Troy Brosnan and his brother Thomas who placed third.

Andrew said he couldn't be happier with the run.

"Yeah it was perfect. I couldn't ask for anything more. I put everything into that run and I wanted that one pretty bad so yeah I am definitely really happy with that run," he said.

The festival is new to Thredbo and the Australian MTB calendar and saw three days of action packed mountain biking.

It consisted of four feature events catering to all levels.

The events included The Australian Open DH on Thredbo's famous Cannonball DH run, The night-time ROCKSHOX Pump Challenge under lights on Thredbo's purpose built pump track, The Whip Wars Big Air Bonanza and the Flow Motion Cup, a gravity flow event perfect for to any skill level
