General manager appointed to South East LLS

The chair of the South East Local Land Services (LLS), David Mitchell, has announced the appointment of Gavin Whiteley as general manager for the South East LLS region.

"I am very pleased to welcome Gavin into this important leadership role," Mr Mitchell said.

"I am confident that he is the right person for the job and will deliver the best outcomes for the South East LLS.

"Gavin is an experienced leader at the senior executive level and has strong technical knowledge across a variety of industries, including the agricultural property, sheep, beef and meat sectors and the irrigated and dryland grain and cotton industries.

"This broad experience means he is well across the different areas of responsibility of LLS and will bring a unique and valuable set of skills to this critical management role."

Mr Whiteley has over 30 years experience in the Australian rural property, food and agribusiness environment across federal and state government, including six years with the Grains Research & Development Corporation and management roles in a variety of national and statewide private enterprises.

Mr Whiteley, a partner in a mixed farming business, said he was delighted to accept the position and the opportunity to contribute through the new organisation.

"I am looking forward to working closely with industry, producers and the community to create a South East LLS that addresses local priorities and provides valuable services to farming business and the community," he said.

Mr Whiteley has a Bachelor in Agricultural Economics (Hons) from the University of New England and an Associate Diploma in Farm Management from Orange Agricultural College.

He is based at Bungendore and will take up the role in the South East LLS in January 2014.
