Spate of car thefts in Cooma

Several cars have been reported stolen, or had items stolen from them, in Cooma on Tuesday night.

A white Mazda was reported stolen from a Cooma North address but was later recovered undamaged in Cooma East.

Police are continuing to investigate further reports of a stolen car and motorbike that remain outstanding.

A silver Nissan Navara table-top ute was reported stolen from Cooma East and a green Kawaskai trail bike was reported taken from an address in Cooma North.

Cooma Police Inspector Peter Rooney said this spate of crimes was unusual.

“It's certainly something that's out of the ordinary for Cooma,” he said.

Fourteen separate incidents of stealing from motor vehicles have been reported to police in the past 12 hours.

Police have not confirmed a link between these series of crimes but have encouraged members of the community to take precautions to protect their property.

“We do want to remind people to lock their cars and not to leave valuables inside.”

Police have requested anyone with information relating to these matters to call Cooma Police on 6452 0099.
