Monaro triumph

The Monaro under 21s have caused a major upset in the Jeffrey Cup competition, overcoming the much vaunted South Coast. It was a special win for Monaro, who have never beaten South Coast, the strongest side in Southern NSW.

Round four of the competition saw Monaro pitted against the South Coast at Nijong Oval. After winning the toss, the home team elected to bat, a decision that paid off.

Monaro got off to a blistering start with M. Moxon scoring 112. With a strong platform laid for a big total, the middle order failed, but thanks to some late hitting from H. Roach (23) and J. Moon (23), Monaro managed a competitive total of 212.

South Coast struggled throughout their innings with wickets breaking partnerships constantly.

Moon was the pick of the bowlers snaring four wickets.

The final stages of the match were thrilling with Monaro needing one wicket and South Coast needing 30 runs.

Late hitting from the the last pair saw the South Coast get close but Moon once again got the breakthrough and the victory. South Coast finished 13 runs shy with 200.
