The village of Bredbo has been honoured for hosting the best event of the year at this year's Australia Day ceremony.
Bredbo's 125th birthday celebrations were named community event of the year.
The event was held in October last year, but planning for such a special occasion started in mid 2012.
The celebrations included a bush dance, BBQ, markets, displays and demonstrations, music, poetry and official speeches. As Bredbo is known as the 'village of poplars' a permanent sculpture for Centennial Park depicting a poplar was designed. The launching of the sculpture was the highlight of the weekend. The celebrations concluded with an Ecumenical service in Centennial Park. The next step is to register the sculpture with 'the big' organisation in the hope of attracting more visitors to Bredbo and onto Cooma.
