Cooma-Bombala Legacy is an organisation dedicated to caring for the families of veterans who have died or become incapacitated.
It helps to look after more than 100 widows and children and dependants with a disability in the region.
It is costly, and so when other local organisations such as the Lions Club and the Cooma Car Club get together to raise funds, it is very welcome.
This is what happened when the two clubs held their annual Australia Day barbecue from early morning until well into daylight.
They were helped enormously by a generous donation of the food by Richard and Ros Mack of Mack's Auto - which swelled the money raised to about $2,000.
It was ceremoniously handed over on Friday when Legacy chairman Mick Meillon received the donation.
He thanked the clubs for the hard work of their volunteers, the Macks for their unheralded generosity, and the public who had a great barbecue and helped funds for a very good cause.
