Records tumble

Six records were broken at the Monaro High School swimming carnival last Thursday.

Meg Bracher broke five in the 17 years and over division. Some of them had stood for 10 years.

She took more than four seconds off the 200m Individual Medley with a time of 2:58.33. The previous record was set by Sarah Redmond in 2006 with a time of 3:02.97.

Other records included (previous record in brackets): 25m Freestyle 13.50 (Maia Parkyn, 14.06sec, 2005), 50m Freestyle 30.21sec (Penelope Stove, 30.47sec, 2004), 50m Butterfly 33.37sec (Penelope Stove, 33.57sec, 2004) and 50m Backstroke 35.31sec (Penelope Stove, 35.52sec, 2004)

In the 15 years girls 50metres backstroke, Katelyn Patricks swam a time of 39.30sec to break the previous record set in 2009 by Tamara Lloyd of 42.40sec.
