During the week the 2014 Betta Home Living Short Course Championships were decided as well as the Wednesday Stableford and a Par event on Sunday. The Short Course competition however was the highlight as the day was a big team effort by the golf club committee and many additional spouses and volunteers seeing over 73 golfers on the course. Many thanks on behalf of all Cooma Golf Club members for the way the short course was run.
So what happened last week on the course...
On Saturday the Betta Home Living Short Course Championships were held. Garry Atkinson won the scratch trophy for men with a 55 off the stick with Marion Burke winning the ladies (Roy Egan Trophy) with 69. A grade winner was Richard Hanna with a net. 55. B grade went to Michael Rawson and C grade to Dave Abraham with a fabulous 50 nett. Rulie Steinfort took out the Birdsnest Trophy, runner up was Gaye Wilson. Our junior winner was Remy Oldrey who won the Perisher trophy with Jake Crawford runner up. Our sub-junior winner was Hunter Caldwell winning the Schweppes Gatorade package. Nearest the pins went to Mark Rainsford, Michael Rawson, Neil Venables, Jake Crawford, Garry Atkinson, Norm Marshall, Steve Edgenton, Matthew Hanna, Tony Rial, John Gargett, Campbell Childs, Richard Hanna, Charlie Filtness, M. Sunday saw a single par event played with Damien Kenneally playing great golf to top the field with plus 6. Ball winners went down to Tom Geach with minus 1. Nearest the pin results were not at hand at the time of writing.
On Wednesday, 27 players competed in 3 grades for the top prizes with A grade being won by John Gargett with 38 points on a countback. B grade was taken out by Phil Amey (with round of the day) 40 points and C grade was taken out by in form Damien Kenneally with 34 points. Ball winners went down to 34 points with Frank McKnight just squeezing in. Nearest the pin on the 9th was won by John Nichols and Campbell Childs hit it very close on the 17th.
Next Saturday sees the 4BBB Championships over 3 grades. A big event for all members. Sunday and Wednesday are both individual medley stablefords with visitors most welcome. Of course there is the daylight saving comp. held every Wednesday afternoon. You can hit off up until around 5:30pm.
Junior golf is on this Sunday again. Members are asked to lend a hand if they can, to encourage our young golfers.
