Monaro Regional Libraries (MRL) are celebrating the Canberra and Regional Heritage Festival 2014 with a series of photographic exhibitions from Bredbo to Thredbo that focus on local families' stories of immigration -and your help is needed.
The theme of the Festival, held between April 5-21, is Journeys and MRL have launched an appeal for people to donate or loan images to help preserve, record and share the region's heritage.
"We're asking people to donate or loan historic images reflecting regional migrant experiences. The Monaro and Snowy Mountains areas have a rich multicultural history and one of the Library's roles in the community is to preserve and promote these stories," said Pam Veiss, MRL manager.
"We are asking for images taken up until the late 1970s of families, workers, housing, recreational pursuits, businesses and business activity, celebrations, funerals or any image they think will inform everyone about the rich multicultural heritage of this region."
Photographs need to be received at Cooma, Bombala or the Mobile Library by 1pm Saturday March 23. Forms to record information about the image can be collected from MRL or downloaded from the website www.monaro.nsw.gov.au
"We would like each photograph to be accompanied with this form so we will know as much information as possible about when and where the photograph was taken," Ms Veiss said.
"We are also asking people to give their permission for the photographs to be displayed in the Heritage Festival Exhibition, digitised or shared all with the appropriate copyright and ownership acknowledgements".
