COOMA has welcomed 31 medical students with open arms.

The students, from the Australian National University (ANU) are in Cooma as part of the medical school's rural week.

During the week the students are given an insight into being a doctor in a rural area with a range of activities including a visit to farms.

On Monday night community representatives from various service clubs, emergency services and schools welcomed the students to town at a Civic Reception hosted by the mayor Dean Lynch at Cooma-Monaro Shire council chambers.

The program has been very successful and it is now the ninth year students have been coming to Cooma for experience.
