Cooma North Public School was established in 1953 to provide an education for the children of employees of the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Authority (SMHEA).
There was a very successful 50th reunion in 2003 and organisers are hoping for the same success in 2013 for the 60th. The celebration will be on Easter Saturday and Sunday, March 30 and 31.
Over the past 60 years many children have had a wonderful education at the school, culminating in ex-students living and working all over Australia and the world. Of course, quite a few are still living in Cooma.
Many changes have taken place at the school over the past 60 years such as curriculum changes, new classrooms and buildings, and the 'piece de resistance' - the addition of a school hall.
So far there has been a good response from those that have been contacted.
The committee organising the event is in the process of extending their advertising Australia-wide, internationally and through facebook.
Of course the committee is hoping that those local families who are or have been connected with the school will be enthusiastic and support the Celebration which includes morning tea, light lunch, dinner and barbecues.
