The Cooma Stallions reserve grade secured a close 26-22 victory over the Candelo/Bemboka Panthers at home on Sunday.
The visitors were first to cross the line in the first three minutes of play, but the Stallions were quick to repond, scoring two minutes later through captain coach Brett Dorward. With a minute left in the first quarter an offload from Shaun Walcot saw Nathan Wren score the second try to take the score to 10-6.
The two sides went try for try and went into the last quarter tied 16 all.
Capitalising on a forward pass, the Stallions found the gap and Blayne Thomas made a 30 metre run before offloading to Arron Stewart who crossed and with a successful conversion took the score to 22-16. Nathan Wren extended the lead with six minutes left with his second try to put the Stallions 10 points in front.
With two minutes left on the clock, the Panthers were not out of the game crossing again to take the score to 26-22. The Stallions managed to hold out the Panthers for the remainder of the match and win.
