MEMBERS of the Nimmitabel Pony Club had 8000 reasons to smile last week courtesy of the state government.
The Club was presented with a cheque worth $8000 through the Participation and Facility Program.
Member for Monaro, John Barilaro, who was on hand to present the cheque, said the grant is designed to improve local sporting facilities.
"The money will be used to purchase new jumps for the club; with horse riding a popular sport in the Monaro and I'm pleased this worthwhile community organisation can receive a helping hand," Mr Barilaro said.
"The NSW Government's Participation and Facility Program is designed to assists grassroots organisations improve local sporting facilities as well as encouraging people to get involved in recreational activities.
"By improving the grassroots infrastructure, the NSW Government is also helping to strengthen our local community through sport.
"Improved facilities make sport more accessible and in turn encourage more people to get off the couch and get active."
