NIMMITABEL brothers Jarred and Jake Wynan both secured a victory in the Sunbelt conference tennis championships, played in New Orleans, USA.
The Wynan boys are currently studying at the University of Louisiana on a sports scholarship and playing Division 1 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tennis.
They represented their university in the tournament last weekend, and contributed to a championship win for the University of Louisiana against the University of South Alabama in the final round of the competition.
Jake was exhilarated to win the topranked doubles match alongside his partner, Rick de Groot.
“We worked so damn hard this season, and for it to pay off like this is just the most incredible feeling,” Jake said.
Jake earned a singles win in the number three singles match against Tuki Jacobs with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.
Jarred also won a singles match in the number six game, defeating Juan Troglia 7-6 (9-7), 6-3.
In the number one doubles competition, Jake and his partner Rick de Groot defeated the opposition 8-2.
“I’ve played next to Rick a lot throughout this season and the last, and we both work really really well together,” Jake said.
Head coach of the men’s tennis team, Mark Jeffreys, praised Jake and Jarred for playing an instrumental part in the team’s success.
“This is huge for our program,” Mr Jeffreys said.
“The Wynan brothers came up big for us in singles. In doubles, Rick (de Groot) and Jake (Wynan) really showed the way for the rest of the team.”
The Wynan brothers are dedicated to whatever they do, both on and off the court.
At university, Jarred studies Computer Science and Jake studies Finance.
