Cats get revenge on Magpies

The Cooma Cats AFL side got some vengeance for last year's finals loss to Belconnen on the weekend by winning their first encounter for season 2014. Cooma won 13.11. (89) to Belconnen 11.11. (77). The Cats started the game with the wind, but it was Belconnen who jumped the Cats and opened the scoring before the Cats hit back with two late goals to end the quarter.

Against the wind in the second quarter, the Cats dug deep with their defence rock solid and their forwards started to open up the Magpies with attacking raid after raid, to go four goals ahead at half time.

In the third quarter the Cats' running game blitzed the tiring Magpies with the young forwards Kyle Hubert and Luke Condon devastating kicking six goals between them to set up the match. The Cats had to hold on against the breeze in the last quarter but even though the Magpies kicked five goals to one, the Cats ran out two goal victors to get their season up and running.

It is an exciting week ahead for the Cats as their Auskick program gets underway at 5pm Thursday at Snowy Oval and then on Saturday their junior AFL under 14's team the Supercats play their first game for the season against Marist at Lindwall at 11am. After the junior game the team heads to Manuka to watch the Auskickers run on the ground and play in the half time Auskick game of the AFL game GWS Giants vs Port Adelaide.

Then first thing Sunday morning 9.30am it is the Cooma Cats who take to Manuka to play Eastlake in a first for the Cooma side playing on the premier AFL ground in the region.

For those juniors and seniors keen to play AFL in 2014 training is Tuesday and Thursdays at Snowy Oval and more details can be found atwww.coomacats.sportingpulse.net
