Tough conditions test golfers

With blustery conditions over the week just gone, great fairway coverage and smooth greens, golfers had the joys of a golf course in excellent condition but tough conditions.

On Saturday 30 players contested the monthly medal in 3 grades. A grade winner was Terry Johnston with 73 nett. B grade winner was Dom Rossi with a round of the day 69 nett and in C grade Heikki Evans had a 78 nett to take out the prize. Ball winners went to 79 nett with Norm Marshall the last to gain a prize.

Nearest the pin on the 9th went to Terry Johnston with a super shot and on the 17th Tim Bedingfield put it nice and close. Long drives went to Garry Atkinson in A grade, Tony Monday in B grade and Bill Dyball in C grade.

On Anzac Day 23 golfers played in a single medley stableford in absolutely beautiful conditions. Overall winner was Col Langdon with a fine 37 points from Steve Young with 35 points. Ball winners went down to Frank McKnight with 32 points. Nearest the pin on both the 9th and the 17th went to Brian Searl.

On Sunday Dave Abraham continued his good form to win round 5 of the super stableford event with a great 41 points. Second place went to Steve Young and coming in third was Gino Cerro. Ball winners went down to 33 points. Nearest the pin on the 9th was George Froeschl. Rod Baker took out the 17th nearest the pin.

Last Wednesday April 23 scores were steady with Lachlan King taking out A grade scoring 37 points. In B grade Heikki Evans had 37 points and Eglis Freimanis took out C grade with a brilliant round of the week 45 points. Ball winners went down to 34 points with a new member (or old member depending on which way you look at it) just getting over the line.

Nearest the pin went to John Alexander on the 9th and Denis Minehan on the 17th. Both players receiving a ball for their great shots.

Next Saturday sees another monthly medal stroke event and Wednesday will be the traditional individual medley stableford for members and visitors.

With the Womens Cooma Open on Sunday there will be no mens competition.
