COOMA Public School welcomed their newest staff member this term, Principal Wendy Attwood.

Originally from Batemans Bay, Ms Attwood has made the transition to Cooma solo with her husband and daughter still living on the coast.

Being Assistant Principal at Batemans Bay Public School, Ms Attwood was successful in merit selection for the Principal's position here in Cooma.

Over the past 10 to 15 years, Ms Attwood has worked in a number of regional roles in the education system to help her prepare for her current position.

She has worked as an early literacy consultant and has helped with transitioning students with special needs from pre-school to kindergarten.

Ms Attwood is currently focused on existing programs and new achievements for Cooma Public School.

"Lots of wonderful things are happening here at Cooma Public School and strengthening the existing programs is something I want to continue," Ms Attwood said.

"It's going to be a time of significant change and looking at what the future holds for the education system."

Ms Attwood said she wishes to implement the new Australian curriculum over the next few years.

The new funding model will also bring new benefits to the school as well as the impact of new technology on student learning.

As for Ms Attwood's first week at Cooma Public, she received a warm welcome.
