The first carnival for the 2014 representative netball season was on Sunday at South Canberra Netball association's courts in Deakin. Two teams, U14's and U15's, represented Cooma Netball. Both teams came up against some very tough and disciplined sides. Although inexperienced, the Cooma girls gave it their all, with the U14's playing 10 games, 8 minute halves with a 15-minute break in between each game. The U14 girls came close to winning three games but lost their groove in the second half allowing the opposition to capitalise and take the win. U14's picked up their attack in the last game of the day and ended on a high with a win over Belconnen 8-6 with some great defence work from Sophie, mid court work from Chloe and shooting from Abby and Jacinta.
The U15's girls played six games throughout the day. Captained by Laura Cook, the girls did their best to hold off their opponents but did not come out with a win for the day. The U15 team had just seven players for the team, which meant they borrowed an U14's player. Thank you to Jess, Alice, Gabby, Miranda and Karley for stepping up. The U15 girls came close to their opponents in the first halves but much like their younger team mates, couldn't maintain discipline to get a win.
All in all it was a great day and experience for the Cooma Netball Assocaition. A big thank you to parents for coming and supporting, Lisa Gibb, Michelle McGufficke and Jasmine Bujalski for being Club umpires, Ruby Curtis and Jade Roach for managing both teams and Erin Donnelly for coaching U15's. Also thank you to players for the effort put in on the day.
