Cooma local Rowena Evans will launch her first illustrated novel Sealskin Coast on May 30 at the Cooma Library.

LOCAL Rowena Evans is set to launch her first book 'Sealskin Coast' next week and couldn't be more excited.

It's been a long process for the author illustrator, having started work on the book some five years ago.

Having worked extensively as an illustrator on a number of projects over the years, including picture books, and written everything from short stories to anthologies, this novel brings together both her passions.

"This is the first entire book I've written. I've written short stories and anthologies, I've been writing for a while, so this is really exciting," she said.

Mrs Evans said writing the novel took perseverance.

"You have to be persistent, working alone and to a certain extent in the dark. You just keep working at it," she said.

"You have to be able to generate a certain amount of motivation without a response."

"I had a lot of encouragement from friends who also write."

Mrs Evans describes her first novel Sealskin Coast as an adventure story for those aged 10 years and older.

"It has a fantasy element as well as a realistic setting," she said.

Mrs Evans will launch the novel at the Cooma Library on May 30, 4pm. She said all were invited to attend the event. RSVP 6455 1730.
